Our client an expanding law firm are seeking to appoint two Intellectual Property Associate Attorneys for the offices; Location listed above.

As an Intellectual Property Attorney you will deal with legal issues related to the ownership of service marks or trademarks, patents, trade secrets, and copyrights. You will be acting as legal advisor and also advocate to your clients.

As an advisor, you will provide counsel about the rights and obligations of your clients. As an advocate, you represent your clients in court, and draft legal documents.

Working as an intellectual property attorney your clients will be knowledge or information producers like inventors, writers, musicians, directors, and producers. Your clients will also work for firms that have to preserve trade secrets like product formulas, designs, and production techniques.

In addition, you will be used to offering your clients advice about protection of trademarks, and, in the process, help your clients create and preserve their brand.

We are also looking for a Patent Attorney (also known as a patent agent) who can assess whether inventions are new and innovative and therefore eligible to be patented.

We are seeking lawyers who are very capable of directing their client’s in the right commercial direction. Additionally directing an individual inventor or company through the required process to obtain a patent and then act to enforce inventors’ rights if patents are infringed.

Patents are granted by the government and give inventors the right to prevent other parties from using or copying their invention for up to 20 years.

Our ideal Patent Associate Attorney client will work either for a law fim, private firm or in large manufacturing organisation that may cross many branches of industry.

Our candidate client Patent Attorney will have trained broadly across the wide-range of intellectual property rights and so will be able to advise on a number of related issues.

The nature of your work depends on whether you are advising private clients or your working for a large organisation protecting their products.

 

We are seeking Associate Attorney candidates with experience in some of the following work:

  • Discussing inventions and processes with inventors or manufacturers and ascertaining whether they are likely to succeed in being granted patents;
  • Studying and analysing scientific or technical documents, including previously granted patents, to assess whether an invention is new and innovative;
  • Writing detailed descriptions of inventions in precise legal terms (patent drafts);
  • Suggesting modifications or extensions to the definition of the invention;
  • Applying for patients for clients from the offical government body, often presenting complicated technical arguments;
  • Preparing responses to reports from patent examiners;
  • Ensuring application and renewal deadlines are met;
  • Working with solicitors and barristers to defend or enforce UK patents;
  • Conducting litigation in proceedings at the EPO or in the Patents County Court;
  • Advising overseas agents on applications for foreign patent applications;
  • Advising on whether business activities will infringe someone else’s patent rights;
  • Dealing with assignments of patent when a patent is sold or transferred;
  • Keeping up to date with legal developments in the intellectual property field;
  • Advising on other intellectual property rights, e.g. designs or trade marks;
  • Tutoring and mentoring trainee patent agents.

 

We are seeking to locate two IP Litigation Associate Attorney’s with 2-8 PQE+ of legal experience for our clients expanding intellectual property practice group.

Qualified candidates will have handled a wide array of research and writing assignments and will have patent litigation experience, including experience with discovery and motion practice.

Trial experience would be a bonus, but not a deal breaker. Strong academics and writing skills are essential.

If you have a strong technical background in Software or Electrical engineering, this would be ideal for our law firm client.

USPTO registration is preferred, but not required.
